Avionics Structures (AV-Structures)

What do we do?

AV-Structures designs and manufactures the avionics bay of the rocket, which houses the computer boards and other electronic components needed to launch a rocket. AV-Structures brainstorms a design, creates the design in CAD, decides how it will be manufactured, and builds the avionics bay. This team interfaces with other teams and subteams, including recovery, structures, and other avionics subteams of course.

Skills learned include:

  • Computer-aided design (CAD) with Siemens NX

  • 3D printing

  • Cable harnessing and management

  • Design to specifications

  • Design for manufacturability

  • Finite element analysis simulations with ANSYS

  • Assembly of final avionics bay

  • Coordination with other teams
